Event page requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the event and requests for the weekly email must be submitted by Wednesday at 4pm in order to appear in the following Monday issue.

A Visit by French novelist Rose Vidal

The Department of French is happy to welcome novelist Rose Vidal for a lunch talk about her recent book, Drama Doll (Gallimard, 2025). Copies of the book are still available in the French Department office, for those who would like to read it beforehand. Come at noon for lunch and stay for the discussion 12:30-1:30.

Join us for a lunch talk with filmmaker and French Studies scholar Prof. Sonja Bertucci (U. of Richmond). Prof. Bertucci will present a film-in-progress made in collaboration with Los Angeles-based directors Rebecca Baron and Douglas Goodwin and inspired by French writer Georges Perec’s Lieux,.This project explores the relationship between individuals and their daily lives, the spaces they inhabit, in a world saturated with information, media, and self-generated images—at a pivotal moment when photography and imagery are being stripped of their indexical content and artificial intelligence increasingly permeates our everyday existence. Lunch will be served.
Reawakening the Château de Purnon

Join us for a special lunch talk, organized with the Alliance Française de Charlottesville, about an incredible restoration of an 18th-century French château. We will be joined by the château's owners, Tim and Felicity Holding, who have been carefully bringing Purnon back to life since they purchased the historical monument in 2020. Lunch will be served.
