Institute for the Arts & Humanities (IAH), formerly known as Institute of the Humanities & Global Cultures (IHGC), is the University of Virginia's organizational nexus for humanities research, artistic discovery, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Founded in 2011, our mission is to advance humanistic research and aesthetic inquiry through innovative programming, institutional collaborations, and faculty-led initiatives. With the guidance of our advisory board, we sponsor competitive faculty fellowship and residency programs, host two-year humanities laboratories and working groups, and facilitate partnerships with other internal centers and external institutions.
IAH is a welcoming space that celebrates the arts and humanities as vital to the broader mission of the university and as sustaining of the deepest values of democratic society. As part of a public university, we welcome all members of the UVA community, and the broader community in and beyond Charlottesville, to join us for the lectures, seminars, workshops, performances, and many other events that we host each semester
